OHENE Celebrates students on National Students Day '16

Today, 15th May, marks National Student's Day 2016; a day designated to celebrate all students of this country; a day to remember our forebearers in the students struggle who toiled for the National Union of Ghana Students and Strived to protect the welfare of students of this country.
The theme for the Day indeed could not have been any better than to revisit the very spirit upon which this Union was established.
Yes, "The Impact of Student Activism in shaping National Policies" is indeed worthy of contemplation.
Admittedly, NUGS over the past few years has contributed not much towards influencing decisions and policies of the Nation.
In the past, talk of GETFund, NSS et al., and the influence of NUGS cannot be left out.
The immense contributions of this Union towards shaping the democracy of this Nation can never be overstated.
NUGS has been focal in the changes from various military regimes to civilian administrations; commendable moves and an inspiring spirit of the Union.
The NUGS of today needs to be infused with ACTION in the quest to contribute meaningfully in terms of ideas and human resources to this nation.
I am glad that this day presents an opportunity for student leaders to interrogate this matter, to ponder over these core mandates of the Union and to contribute to enable the Union move beyond its current state.
I wish all an Action -riented Student's Day.
Let's together set the right pace for the progress of the Union and this Nation.
Long live NUGS.
Long live Ghana
God bless us all!

Appreciations

We thank God for a very safe trip to and from Navrongo in our quest to elect a NUGS Representative of Ghana to AASU. Though there were some few cases of accidents but through it all we are grateful to God for our lives.
The journey and happenings at Navrongo has its own ups and downs. Undoubtedly, there were some disappointments so far as our expectations were concerned, but I believe that lessons have been learnt as we strive to REDEFINE NUGS.

Scottish MPs can go to hell with their gay right advocacy tactics!!!!!

Intimidation to force gays right on Ghana will not work.
The attack yesterday by Scotland's Minority MPs on President John Dramani Mahama was unfortunate, baseless and misplaced.
We have our priorities as a country and so does Scotland.
If the minority MPs feel that Gay right is a priority to them over efforts to curb the high crime rate of their country,

Alarming - quite a large number of the youth and some students

It is amazing the number of our cherished youth who smoke in this country.
Youth victims of this canker surprisingly include Tertiary, Senior High School, and even Junior High School students.
In one case I chanced upon in my interactions with some youths of one community in one of the Regions in Ghana, a 12 years old boy narrated how he feels when he "highs".

In fact, for the school dropouts, the use of tobacco has become a basic necessity of

Terrorist attacks - Ghana must be serious with Security at all levels

Mali, Côte d'Ivore, and Burkina Faso have all suffered terrorist attacks over the past few months, with 20 lives lost so far in the recent beach resort attack in the Ivory Coast.
These attacks are condemnable and must be bantered with uttermost alacrity.
I wish to send my condolences to all affected persons and countries as such.
Ghana as a country needs to be on guard especially at this point in time where some West African countries are

OHENE Celebrates Women on International Women's Day.

I am much humbled to join the entire world and all women worldwide to celebrate the International Women's day.
Unconditionally, the impact of women on all aspects of our lives can never be overestimated. We can't also refuse to appreciate the fact that life would have to some extent been meaningless without women; taking into consideration the woman's role in all aspects of life.
I am equally of the opinion that,

My heart beats with pride to once again see the colors of independence day spreading happiness and great Joy all around. The pride of being a citizen of this great Nation, Ghana, the land of peace and love.
Our forefathers indeed deserve honor for the great work they did and their services rendered to mother Ghana.
I wish to also take this opportunity to congratulate all leaders of this great nation for how far they have brought us.
As we mark our 59th birthday as a country,
